Recently, the tau -> K pi nu_tau decay spectrum has been measured by the Belle and BaBar collaborations. In this talk, we present an analysis of such decays introducing a dispersive parametrization for the vector and scalar Kpi form factors. By combining this analysis with the K_l3 decay constraints, it is possible to determine the Kpi form factors precisely and then to perform stringent tests of the Standard Model. For instance, the determination of |Vus| from the Cabibbo-suppressed semi-inclusive tau decays is discussed. A comparison and a combination of these results with information from kaon physics is also considered. Finally, we assess the prospects for such analysis at the next generation of flavour factories.
